Maternal Antibodies

Vanguard® Plus CPV overcomes maternal antibodies to produce a strong immune response.

Relationship of falling maternal antibodies
  • Puppies born to dams with immunity to CPV are initially protected by maternal antibodies acquired through colostrum.
  • These maternal antibodies can interfere with the effectiveness of a vaccine-induced immunity.
  • The average half-life of CPV maternal antibodies is approximately 10 days.1

CPV hemagglutination inhibition titers ≥ 1:80 protect puppies from infection, but titers between 1:40 and 1:80 are not protective and may interfere with vaccination.2
